Beat the Heat with Reliable AC – Summer Car Care Tips to Use Your AC More Efficiently

As the days get longer and warmer, car rides become increasingly uncomfortable for Davenport, IA, residents, making them dependent on the vehicle’s cooling system. Using the car’s AC may seem like a no-brainer, but there are ways to get the most out of your car’s AC during the hot weather.

We talked to our car engineers and AC experts at Dales Service Center, and here are some simple tips that they shared on how to use car AC more efficiently in the summer season:

1.Stop Pre-Cooling

It’s simply not worth it!

Your car’s air conditioner works in conjunction with the engine. The faster the engine runs, the better the AC will work, and vice versa.

Don’t overstress your vehicle’s engine and air conditioning system by turning them on beforehand.

2.Pump Out the Hot Air First

We understand why you would want to switch on the AC the moment you get into the car, but our experts suggest otherwise. They recommend rolling down the rear windows first to pump out the hot air trapped inside.

Pro Tip: Opening the rear windows will remove the hot air more efficiently. If you roll down the front windows, only the front side of the car will clear up, and the rear cabin will remain hot.

It is best to drive your car without AC for a minute or so with an open sunroof to pump out all the hot air from your car.

3.Start at a Low Temperature

We know you would want to crank up the AC to the maximum at this point, but that would make your car’s air conditioning system work harder. There’s a reason why automatic vehicle air conditioning systems always start at low speed and gradually increase it. Follow this with your manual AC, too, to have it work most efficiently.

4.Don’t Forget to Check the Filter

You may be following all the best practices, but your car’s AC still wouldn’t work the best if the filter is dirty or worn out. So make sure to get it checked so to avoid unexpected problems later. Contact Dales Service Center for car AC service and repair in Davenport, Iowa.
