"Why does my A/C blow warm air" you ask? Well unlike the A/C system in your home, your vehicles system gets jostled around while driving through the streets of Davenport. And over time the fittings and A/C components get worn out and tired which causes freon to leak out. Since freon is a gas, it seeps into the atmosphere rather than drips down like engine oil or antifreeze making it tougher to find when there is a leak. In order to find the leak, we generally need to remove all old freon and air that is inside of the A/C system with a machine (Recover). Then we can perform a leak test to see if the A/C system can hold a vacuum (Evacuate) and if it is able to hold a vacuum we can replenish with new freon (Recharge). Why not just add freon? With todays automotive A/C systems, most vehicles hold a specific amount and if overfilled will not cool at all. The freon amounts need to be precise in order to work correctly. When we add freon to the System, we also add oil, to help lubricate existing A/C components. We also add a special dye to aid in finding a leak if necessary. The dye will appear by leaving traces of color near the closest component where the freon leaked out. The dye generally cannot be seen with the naked eye. We need to use a black light and special glasses to see it. Sometimes it can take a few weeks to find a leak so generally we ask to come back for a re-inspect a week or two later. Sometimes after further inspection we find a leak at the compressor, a hose or possibly the evaporator and after repairing one of those items the A/C system will be ok. Most often times we can Recover, Evacuate & Recharge and your AC system will be blowing ice cold for most of the summer. However, no guarantees you will be as cool as this guy when we are done though!
